Everyone knows that Army Sucks and Navy Sucks at football AND that rivalries are a wonderful opportunity to completely shit on our fellow human beings… and for what?
- Because I was born in a different geography than you?
- Because I attended a different school than you?
Exactly, and it doesn’t matter.
As human beings, we like to talk shit to each other and sports help us do it in a somewhat socially acceptable manner.
My favorite part is that people I don’t even know in real life are doing all the work on the fields of friendly strife against other people I don’t know.
And whenever the people I don’t know in real life on my favorite team score one more point than your favorite team…
I get to talk shit.
Doing It Right
As a young man attending Pat Riley basketball camp at the University of California, Santa Barbara, I learned that the best way to talk shit was to lead with the worst thing you can say, first:
You suck.
If you were going to talk shit, that was the way to do it.
In fact, one kid had a plain mesh shirt that simply said, “Boston Sucks,” and that kid was a god among us regular campers.
It stuck with me.
From that point on, when I didn’t like something – it sucked.
Plain and simple.
So What?
I decided to explore this idea with a pretty basic design. And now that I am putting it out there, I’m interested to learn if other people think the same way.
As a society, have we become too polite or even too passive aggressive to just come out and say this or that sucks?
I’m steering into it and will let you know what we find out.

BEHIND THE DESIGN
Just your everyday font subtraction of the words Army Sucks and Navy Sucks from a silhouette of the animals that represent their mascots. The original reason for this was to have a single color design I could put onto a t-shirt – with the shirt serving as the second color of the design.
Stickers were an afterthought, but I do like how they turned out as statement makers.
